When you find yourself facing an unplanned pregnancy, it’s important to look at all options available to you. Believe it or not, you do have choices. We want to help you walk through those options and choose the one that is right for you.
There are a lot of myths about adoption. Contrary to what you’ve heard, adoption does not involve “giving up” anything. Birthmothers (and fathers, if possible) select the family and the type of adoption they want. You have full control.
Moving forward, you determine the type of adoption plan that you’re comfortable with. There are three adoption plans that most women choose from.
An Open Adoption means you and the adoptive family have access to one another through face-to-face meetings, phone calls and letters. You will have the opportunity to be a part of the child’s life and participate in major events if both parties agree.
A semi-open adoption is a blend of an open and closed adoption. You choose how much information is shared and how much contact you wish to have. Communication is made through a third party such as an agency.
Very few adoptions today are closed. Birthparents want to have information about the child, and adopting couples are often excited to have contact as well. Research has shown that an open or semi-open adoption is better for the child because it helps them understand the process. For birthparents, having more access to the child offers peace of mind knowing they are safe and loved.
If making an adoption plan is something you would like to consider, let’s set up an appointment. We’ll give you the contact information for reputable adoption agencies and adoption attorneys.
